When you start learning the keyboards, you are usually not sure whether you are going to learn it properly, and that is why many choose to buy a basic keyboard with touch sensitive keys. Over a period of time, as you become better and want to explore more styles and songs, the sixty-one keys can be limiting.

And that is when you decide to upgrade to a keyboard with more keys.

Good First Keyboard

The best thing about the Yamaha YPG-235 is that it gives you 76 keys (Graded Soft Touch, not weighted) and at a price that many beginners can afford.

If you are a student who wants to begin learning or if you have relocated to a new place and want a board for practice, this comes across a very straightforward keyboard that has a good set of features, and also lets you record your own music.

Built-in Lessons

This is more of a beginner keyboard and that is why it comes with the Yamaha education suite, which provides you with several keyboard lessons of various levels. You can read more on it here.

You also get 30 internal songs, plus about 70 pn the CD-ROM for practicing.

Several Styles & Variations

If you are an experienced player, you’ll appreciate the collection of styles and the variations provided (for the price of-course).

It also comes with a pitch bend wheel to add more expression to your playing.

The Master EQ has five different settings so that you can choose the best possible sound when listening to the keyboard from different systems such as the instrument's internal speakers, headphones, or an external speaker system.

    The USP obviously is the price of this keyboard. I have played piano before so I wanted the piano sounds to be very god, which is the case here. The other voices are also great, though the guitar doesn't sound real enough, but you can layer it up with other sounds to make it more interesting. The ypg-235 definitely gives more bang for your bucks.

    I wanted a piano keyboard with more than 61 keys, but not exactly the hammer action keyboard. I have played mostly on synth style keyboards before, so I just wanted something that was somewhere in between the pure synth keys and the weighted keys.

    The piano style Graded Soft Touch (GST) keys on the ypg-235 offers you just that. The USB connectivity is another extremely useful feature on this keyboard. And the price? You can?t get anything better for this price.

    I was looking for a lot of things but didn't want to pay a lot for it, and I think the yamaha ypg-235 fits in nicely. It has more than 61 keys, is sturdy and at the same time its lightweight. I use it mostly for arranging songs, more of a draft version before I record it properly on my computer. An excellent value for money keyboard, for all ages and for all skill levels!
