Yamaha YPG 235 76 key portable grand piano keyboard - Connecting a Sustain Pedal produces the opposite effect

by Laura
(Leeds, UK)

I am trying to use a sustain pedal with my brand new Yamaha YPG 235 76 key portable grand piano keyboard.

I plugged in the Yamaha FC4 footswitch into the sustain jack and am trying to switch sustain on and off.

The footswitch (for sustain) surprisingly seems to produce the opposite effect on my YPG 235 76 key grand piano keyboard.

For example, instead of sustaining the sound, pressing the footswitch cuts off the sound… and releasing it sustains the sounds.

This is a totally opposite effect from what I require!

I am worried now since my YPG 235 keyboard is brand new. Is my Yamaha YPG 235 76 key portable grand piano keyboard faulty, or is there something wrong with the pedal?

- Laura

Yamaha YPG 235 76 key grand piano keyboard - Connecting a Sustain Pedal produces the opposite effect
by: Suresh

Your Yamaha YPG 235 76 key portable grand piano keyboard is okay. It's just that the polarity of the footswitch is reversed.

You may have accidentally pressed the footswitch while turning the power on. If you do so, the recognized polarity of the footswitch changes, resulting in reversed footswitch operation.

Just turn-off the keyboard and disconnect the pedal.

Make sure that the footswitch plug is properly connected to the SUSTAIN jack before turning on the power.

Turn-on the keyboard and check again.

The sustain pedal should work fine now with your Yamaha YPG 235 76 key portable grand piano keyboard.
