Review on Yamaha PSR S710 Keyboard
    by: H R Kurup

Experience taught me "Each worthy keyboard has its own soul" - and the Yamaha PSR S710 keyboard surely has a blissful one! First I will list out all the good points:

    1. The quality of sounds - Let me rate them from 1 to 5 (5 being highest) as follows herewith -
Piano - I rate at 4. My favorite - the Live! Warm Grand Piano. There are 10 of the piano sounds to be selected and all are extremely useful, and nice sounding.

E-Piano – I rate at 3 My Favorite - the Cool! Electric Piano and the Clavi. Well if you are wondering why I rated 3, then the reason is that there are some sounds like the Tremelo, and the WahClavi that could have been better on the Yamaha PSR S710.

Organs – Rating is 4.5 this is the best feature. There are around 15 to choose from (My favorite being the Rock Organ) and the sounds are very real.

OrganFlutes – Rating is 4.5 - the bonanza! Very very realistic and there are lots to choose from.
Sax andTrumpets - Well, let me put plain that I come from India and out here we rarely get to see or hear saxes / bagpipes. So cant comment and rate on something on which I have no exposure (sorry folks). But I do went thru the category and found that there are many varieties provided by Yamaha in these categories.

Synths and Pads – Rating is 2.5 – this is the weakest part of this keyboard. Very few synth sounds – most of them are just bells and whistles.. Roland M -50 scores far better in this category. But again, it depends on which music you are into - if you into retros and use leads, then this keyboard fill fit the bill. However, if you are looking at those “pumping” jassy basslines, then this keyboard is a big let down in this category.

    2. Other features – USB recording I haven't tried. The buttons are good, though the overall look is quite plastic. How I wish that Yamaha would have provided some knobs for voice control...Knobs are the thing...Well, I need to satisfy myself with buttons... Also please do remind yourself that this is not a synthesizer; it's an out and out Workstation Keyboard!

Overall rating – Would rate the Yamaha PSR S710 Keyboard at 4.5, except for if someone into synth sounds then the rating is 3.

    Yamaha PSR-S710 and Mac
    by: Styler

Do Yamaha keyboards have some problems with the Mac? Long back I had some problem with my ypt-420 not working with the Mac and now I have the psr-s710 the disc of which is not getting installed on my Mac.

This is really bad, especially when you get a new keyboard and notice that one of its bundled accessories does not work. Am unable to get in touch with Yamaha service as well. Anyone here facing this problem of the installation software not working on Mac??

    Chose the PSR-S710 over S910
    by: Acus

The primary reason for choosing the PSR-S710 was obviously the cost.

But besides the cost factor, I was also looking for some realistic voices and USB connectivity, which the psr710 offers

What it doesn't offer compared to the psr-s910 is that it has fewer voices, no mp3 playback and a TFT screen. I thought I could manage without these things.

But with a price tag of almost 700 dollars less than the psr-910, I decided to go for the psr710 instead.

Yamaha PSR s710 vs Roland GW8
    by: MrK

The PSR s710 is built as a mini version of the psrs910 but the S910 has fantastic sounds whereas the S710 is good in certain areas.

Even the Roland GW8 seems to be a notch higher than the psr710 because of its realistic pianos, EPs and synth sounds.

I was looking for a microphone port for a USB Mic on the psrs710 but it doesn't have a Mic connection so I may have to consider the psr910 now.

Yamaha psr-s710 is Value for Money
    by: AKA

I personally feel the Yamaha psr-s710 offers the best Value for Money.

The psr-s910 is almost close to 2000 dollars but doesn't include a lot from the Tyros. The Tyros 3 itself was exorbitantly priced before the Tyros 4 came in.

I think one should be wise with his money.

Mixed Feelings about the Yamaha psrs710 Keyboard
    by: Harris

I am searching for a good arranger keyboard, have checked the Yamaha psr-s710 too and it gives me mixed feelings. I have extensively used the Korg I30 and the Roland E-60 before but am not totally convinced with this one.

The downside I see is that it does not seem to be robustly made (even psr s910 looked that way). I'm not going to keep these expensive boards at home, and for gigging purposes the cheap plastic finish did not convince me. Same with the keys too, though they are synth style keys I did not like the feel of the keys.

The positive things are its voices and arrangements. Most of the sounds on the PSR-S710 are top quality and the arrangements are excellent. Use the styles for solo performances as a one-man band or you can even use it for coming up with a quick composition.

I, for the time being, will keep on looking.

Yamaha PSR s710 Keyboard is Cool
    by: Kelvin

Having used the psr550 for almost 3 years, I decided to move on to the next one. I did consider the psr s910 but then it was way beyond my budget, almost 600 bucks more than the psr710. So I settled in for the psr-710.

What I like on this is the quality of the orchestra voices. For instance the Brass, Sax and the Flutes sound very realistic, and editing them is also easy.

Compared to the psr550, piano sound is much better here, you get the mod wheel to add expressivity, its easy to use the registration memory and much more.

I wish they had a 76 key model too, could have played more piano songs.
