Yamaha PSR s550 Keyboard Review

by Suresh

Yamaha PSR s550b Keyboard Review - Here is an entry level arranger workstation, the PSR s550b, for serious keyboardists.

The keyboard is easy to use which some great voices and styles. You have around 774 voices and it comes with a Style creator.

If you are looking for a synthesizer like keyboard then note that you cannot create sounds on this keyboard. You can only apply effects and save it as a setting.

You can create your own stuff using the 16-track sequencer.

Yamaha PSR s550, PSR s550b

Conclusion: So, basically it's a great entry level arranger workstation, but professionals will find some core stuff missing that is needed for professional music creation.

"Freeze" and "Split" registrations available
by: Elminger

Freeze is no problem with this keyboard. If you need help, feel free to contact me.

Download the Demo at:
http://www.keyboard profis.de/shop/article_550_demo/20-gratis-Demo-Voice-Registrations.html

And you will see how it works. All offered Registrations there are in "freeze - mode".

I also can offer you registrations which have Two Spilt Points. There you can use Left part as an individual area right from the auto-accompaniment area.

In the near future there will be an application, which helps you to "freeze" your registrations.

Using both features (split & freeze) this keyboard is a good thing to play the whole night as an entertainer on stage - or just for fun at home.

Limitation in Yamaha PSR 550 Keyboard
by: Anonymous

The Yamaha PSR 550 music keyboard has everything fine, but only main problem is that the freeze option is not there. While changing the voice by using registration memory with transpose mode is not possible.

Yamaha PSR s550B Keyboard - No Freeze button
by: Vipin (India)

Hi All,

All the features on the Yamaha PSR s550B keyboard are fine. The only problem I found on this is that there is no "FREEZE" button which may be affect you live performances.

Budding professional keyboard players will like this product
by: Jack

Advanced players and professionals will be disappointed with this one considering that it misses the real professional feel, just in case if you are considering this keyboard for its price.

It's pretty difficult to come up with some cool live guitar sounds.

One touch setting can?t be enjoyed to the fullest because I can't set my own voices.

The biggest drawback IMO is the lack of a freeze button, its quite difficult to switch sounds using the registration keys.

But before everybody feels there are only downsides to this keyboard, here are some positives.

If you are stepping into the world of professional music, this is great board to have and is the best way to begin

I used the psrs550 for more than a year and was quite happy with it. I was quite impressed with it when I got it first.

I now need a more professional keyboard that will give me more features and more control over those features.

Yamaha psrs550b Keyboard
by: Joy

800 voices, 176 built-in accompaniment styles including 14 Regional styles, Style Creator, and 16-track sequencer. I just love my Yamaha PSR-S550. I bought it for somewhere around $750

Yamaha psrs550 Keyboard
by: Croy

I agree. Compared to the top end arrangers, this one does lack a few things. Some of the advanced features that Expert players might be interested in like - direct sound recording on USB storage device, modulation wheel, line out for stage are missing.

But then the psrs550 is an entry level arranger workstation keyboard. For amateurs, this is a great keyboard.

Great for Beginner to Intermediate Players
by: Skek

It is good but has limitations; i think those should have been there. Yu cannot name your recorded song. It has to be User Song1, and you have a capacity of just 5 songs so you can go up to User Song 5.

It does have USB storage but for some reason it wont read beyond 200. Even though your USB may have 500 styles or songs, the keyboard reads only 200.

Having said that, the psr-s550 is a great product especially for intermediate level players.

It's a good performer keyboard for your money. I have used it for more than 6 months now, but then I am eying the Psr-s910 in another year?s time.

I Need to Buy a Yamaha Keyboard - PSR 550 or the PSR 710?
by: Cystal

Hi,

I am looking for a Yamaha PSR Keyboard that will help me create and edit songs, and not just play. I want the sound to be fantastic.

I have the budget for the PSRs550 and will really need to stretch it to go in for the next level up in the series that is the psrs710.

So unless there are some really compelling advantages of the psr-s710, I would go for the psrs550. Any comments?

I play keyboards just about okay but as I said, I enjoy giving shape to the various musical ideas that I have in my mind.
