Yamaha PSR 9000 Keyboard - Want to Replace Floppy Drive on my yamaha piano keyboard

by Martin
(San Jose)

The floppy disk drive on my Yamaha PSR-9000 piano keyboard seems to be faulty and I need to get it replaced.

An electronic technician, whom I trusted, had got it fixed some time back but now he has moved city and I am unable to find someone who could fix it for me.

I have spent a lot of time to locate the right technician to do this and so I was wondering if it is possible to fix it myself?

Any suggestions on what floppy drive model number to buy for my Yamaha PSR 9000 piano keyboard, how to go about doing it, any site where I can find more DIY information, etc. would surely help.

A floppy is a floppy - Replacing Floppy Disc Drive on Yamaha PSR 9000 Keyboard

Replacing the floppy drive in your PSR-9000 is the same as replacing a floppy drive in any computer, it's just a floppy drive for heaven's sake.

You need to open the Yamaha psr-9000 keyboard, removing all the screws located at the bottom with a Phillips Screwdriver, remove the cover, go to the floppy drive, remove the screws that hold it in place, remove the connectors, insert a new floppy, reconnect, and reverse all the steps.

ANY floppy drive will work, although you might not find a black one, you can replace the front black plate of the old one and reinstall it in the new one.

Floppy drives are cheap ($10.00) at any computer store, sometimes free if used but good. If people throw away their older computers, they always have a floppy drive.

SAVE THEM! By the way, I also own a Yamaha PSR-9000 keyboard.

Floppy Disc Drive on Yamaha PSR 9000 Keyboard

Fixing the floppy disk drive on Yamaha PSR-9000 keyboard!

They are a few players who do the job pretty well but then not everybody does it.

Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Hitachi usually do these kind of jobs. Ask your local music instrument shop for more names of technicians who can fix such stuff.

If you have done such sort of things before, like adding, removing, fixing hardware on your computer then you may probably give it a try on your Yamaha psr-9000.

Regarding a site that shows you DIY stuff on replacing floppy drives on music keyboards...I haven't come across any to be honest.
