Yamaha PSR 550 keyboard – Disk Mode Limitations

by Chris
(Nevada)

I have a Yamaha psr 550 keyboard and it seems to be behaving erratically at times. At times it does not respond to any of the buttons that I press, nothing seems to happen or function, even when pressing any of the panel buttons on my psr550.

For instance, pressing the DEMO button on my PSR-550 does not start any of the Demo songs, the buttons to select the voices and styles seem to be disabled, even playing the keyboard does not produce any sound.

Is there any problem with my Yamaha PSR 550 keyboard?

Keyboard Amps - Yamaha PSR-550
by: Jerry

Hi Dong,

You have not mentioned the purpose for which you need keyboard amps for your Yamaha PSR 550. If you want to play for an audience, you need to know how big that place is going to be and where you are going to perform.

If you just going to perform among friends, then you don?t even need an amp, Yamaha PSR 550 has good built-in speakers which should be sufficient.

Generally, for smaller venues, a single keyboard amp with 60 Watts may be fine. But if you are going to perform for a larger audience then you may need around 150-180 watts. Again, a pair of amps would be better but then that purely depends on how much impact you want to create.

If you are going to get paid for it on a regular means, by all means invest in a pair of keyboard amps

Keyboard Amplifier for my Yamaha PSR 550?
by: Hoo Dong (Korea)

Hi,

What is a suitable keyboard amplifier for my Yamaha PSR 550?

I need something which can be easy to carry around. Do I need to buy a pair of amps for my PSR-550?

Would appreciate any suggestions on what kind of amplifier I should be buying for my Yamaha PSR 550.

Yamaha PSR 550 keyboard ? Disk Mode Limitations
by: Anonymous

Your Yamaha PSR 550 keyboard may be just fine. It is just that you may have engaged the Disk Mode...probably to save or load some data.

In almost all the Yamaha PSR keyboards, when you are in the Disk mode, panel operations cannot be executed, except if you are doing any of the disk operations.

So playing the keyboard will not produce any sound and as such your psr-550 is behaving normally.

You use the Disk mode to save and load important data so functions around only that activity are allowed.

For the Yamaha PSR keyboards, even the backlight color is set to blue as the factory default when you are in the Disk mode.
