Yamaha PSR 520 keyboard Review – An Entry Level Arranger Workstation

Here is a review of Yamaha PSR 520 keyboard, an entry level arranger workstation keyboard. Learn how to get the most out of the Yamaha psr-520.

Using music keyboards can be a very expensive hobby, especially as your skills become better and you are constantly on the lookout for better keyboard instruments.

But with the Yamaha PSR-520 you can enjoy a first class keyboarding experience without breaking your budget apart. Of course, you do get what you paid for and it is indeed a quality entry-level arranger workstation.

Yamaha PSR 520

Decent Set of Voices, Styles, Effects & Songs

There is a limited selection of voices available for the user. There are 140 voices to choose form, which is relatively less compared to other digital keyboards of the same class. For what the Yamaha PSR 540 Yamaha lacks in quantity, it more than makes up for it with the amazing quality of the PSR 540’s voices.

Yamaha has always been equated when it comes to quality sound. Their piano voices are among the best in the industry. To complement the quality voices, Yamaha has also installed 100 superb accompaniment styles that can help create a great composition no matter what genre you are trying to play.

To make things even better, you have a built in Harmony Effects Function. This function will automatically add harmony notes at the right time on the Yamaha PSR 520 keyboard.

If you want to hear your work, the song recorder can capture the songs you have played and play it back to you. If you want to hear what you can be capable of with the Yamaha PSR-520, you can also play the 25 demo songs. The 25 demo song can be used by novice players so that they can play along with the songs and practice.

Create Your Music Using the Sequencer

It does not have the same 16 track sequencer that is available with other models from Yamaha.

This psr keyboard, however, has a multi track recording system so that you can record the accompaniment and record the melodies separately.

To make things even better, you can record 8 songs all in the PSR 520s memory.

Important Features

  • 141 High Quality Voices
  • 100 Accompaniment Styles
  • State of the Art Digital Effects
  • Multi Track Sound Recording
  • 25 Demo Songs
  • Harmony Echo Effects
  • Midi Compatibility

  • Conclusion

If you look hard enough, you might be able to find a Yamaha PSR-520 for around a one-fifty to two hundred dollars. I would recommend buying this if the price is right. Otherwise, you may even opt for something more advanced like the PSR-1000, or something higher. The Yamaha PSR 520 keyboard is an excellent instrument for intermediate players or someone starting to get serious in the craft.
