Yamaha PSR 200 Keyboard – What Cable Do I Use to Connect it to a PC (Joystick Port)?

by Vinay

Yamaha PSR 200 Keyboard

Yamaha PSR 200 Keyboard

I have bought a used Yamaha PSR 200 Keyboard recently and I am trying to figure out what is needed to connect it to my Desktop Computer.

I want to play around with the software Band-in-a-Box, and to be able to record the notes using the software I will have to connect my Yamaha portatone PSR 200 Keyboard to the computer.

I am not sure if my Yamaha PSR-200 can be connected to the computer using USB cable, but my computer has a Joystick port.

What cable do I need to use to connect my Yamaha PSR 200 Keyboard to the Joystick port?

Yamaha PSR 200 Keyboard ? What Cable Do I Use to Connect it to a PC (Joystick Port)? NEW
    by: Ben

Connecting the Yamaha PSR Keyboard to the joystick port is a common way of connecting, albeit a bit outdated method. The recent PSR keyboards can be connected to the computer to its USB port.

You will find the Joystick (midi) port at the back panel of the computer; it is a 15-pin port. So to make the connection you will need a MIDI / Joystick cable.

Once you get the MIDI / Joystick cable, you make the connection in the following way.

    1. Take the 15-pin plug of the MIDI/Joystick cable and connect it to the MIDI/Joystick port on the Computer.

    2. Connect the DIN plug labeled 'MIDI OUT' to the MIDI IN port on the Yamaha PSR Midi keyboard.

    2. Connect the DIN plug labeled 'MIDI IN' to the MIDI OUT port on the Yamaha PSR Midi keyboard.

Once you make the above connection, you should be able to use the Band-in-Box software with your Yamaha PSR 200 Keyboard.
