What Digital Piano or Keyboard for around $2500 to $3000?

by Ken
(Netherlands)

Hi,

I am looking for a really good Digital Piano, or may be a Keyboard. My budget is around $2500 to $3000, which is around about 2000 to 2200 Euros.

I have been playing the keyboards for more than 5 years now, so I am not a beginner. I have done some research on the internet but I am not sure which have the best feel...like a normal piano.

I am not looking for plastic keys, doesn't feel piano like. And the piano sounds have to be very realistic. Wooden stand will even be better.

I like the Kawai CA51 digital piano, which uses real wooden keys.

Another alternative I am looking at is the Yamaha YDP or the Yamaha CVP series, just because they have keyboard like features...all those accompaniments, fingered mode, etc. I have played keyboards so would love those things.

Only problem is I don’t know how the keys on the Yamaha pianos feel.

Can I have some suggestions on the Yamaha YDP V240? How the keys feel and how about it sounds?

I am open to other suggestions as well...may be a digital stage piano?

Thanks a lot
Ken

Checkout the Roland HP-307 console digital piano or the more recently launched Roland DP-990RF piano in this price range.

For this budget, you will definitely find a few more options. In fact, you can even consider digital grand pianos if you are interested in playing the piano. Check out Suzuki, Kohler and the River pianos. They are all good and can be bought for around $2500.

Thanks for your valuable comments guys.

This is what I am looking for - a combination of the best possible key touch and piano sounds, and accompaniments that recognize the chords that I play.

Keep them coming please. I will do some more research on Roland as well now.

I would say that plastic keys are not necessarily bad. You can still get a very good touch out of it.

With your budget, you should also have a look at the Roland RD series (some of them may not have built-in speakers). IMHO Yamaha keyboards and pianos in this range do not sound as impressive as the Roland.

Kawai also could be a good option. Go for one with their latest and the best sound engine (Ultra Progressive Harmonic Imaging).

Not sure of the price of the following digital pianos, but I think the following are some good options if you want an upright piano look, wooden keys, and accompaniment functions.

  • Kawai CP136 piano

  • Kawai CP137 piano

  • Yamaha CVP-407 piano

  • Yamaha CVP-509 piano
