Want to buy a digital piano, preferably Yamaha piano - Any Suggestions?

Digital Piano Keyboard

Digital Piano Keyboard

Want to buy a digital piano!!

I have a son who is presently attending university. He plays the piano and really wants a REAL piano. The main reason is the feel of the keys on a real piano. I have played some digital pianos in the past and some of my other sons actually have one.

They do not quite feel like a real piano.

I live in a small town so not easy to go shopping for a digital piano but I feel this would be a much better choice even if a 2nd choice over a real piano given he is a student who will likely move around during his education.

Of digital pianos out there today, which brands or models out there have the closest feel to a real piano. That is the main issue.

All the other bells and whistles are secondary.

My son particularly likes the feel of a Yamaha piano as that is what he played on while at home. Any digital pianos out there that have the key feel of a Yamaha piano?

Thanks if you can offer some suggestions for a suitable digital piano. It will me most appreciated and help me narrow down the shopping trip to the city.

Best Piano Keyboard to Buy for an Advanced Pianist
by: Pianoman

We have a Steinway back at home and IMHO, nothing even comes closer to a piano like Steinway.

Having said that, we have an M-Audio 88 key portable piano, and it weighs only weighs only around 17 pounds. It will need an amp or headphones to hear its output. I have heard that even the Casio Privia pianos are very lightweight, suitable for taking it around.

I am not very sure if you have a 61 Key keyboard with weighted keys. Do you get one?

Best Piano Keyboard to Buy for an Advanced Pianist

You can check out the Casio Privia or the Yamaha P series piano keyboards. I guess you may prefer the Yamaha over the Casio if you have played the piano for so long.

Best Piano Keyboard to Buy for an Advanced Pianist
by: Jim

I have been playing the piano for over 10 years now, playing mostly Classical and a bit of Jazz.

I am thinking of buying a digital piano keyboard so that it gives me the flexibility to travel with it.

Can anybody suggest some good digital piano keyboards?

Do you get weighted keys in 61 key keyboards?

Yamaha P85 digital stage piano review
by: Jim

We recently purchased the Yamaha P85 digital stage piano for my daughter who turned 17.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the purchase. The keyboard touch feels much better; the sound is great though a little weak on the output volume.

I also have a MacBook Pro so I bought a Midi-interface, just in case she decides to try her hands at composing. Even that works perfectly.

I have no issues with the Yamaha P85 digital stage piano and would recommend this product to anyone who wants to learn to play piano.

Hi Greg,

You didn't mention your budget for the digital piano.

It would help the boarders to give you more suggestions.

Besides Yamaha, you have pianos from Roland, Korg and Casio (privia) which you can look at, but again depends on what price range you are looking at.

So you do not want your piano to have accompaniments, styles? (If no, that rules out the DGX / YPG models from Yamaha)?

How much is portability important to you? Are you looking at a portable stage piano or a digital home piano?

Can you please provide some more information?
