Problem using MIDI connection from Yamaha P85 piano to laptop

by KK
(Singapore)

Hi there,

I am trying to set up MIDI driver from Yamaha P85 piano to my HP laptop (32 bit) by using a MIDI cable.

It appears "Error 25001, No device is connected".

I have tried many ways (reversing IN and OUT heads). Still no luck. I am trying to install "um3042x86" from Yamaha website. It looks correct driver.

Any suggestion please!

Thanks in advance.
KK

Do you have the latest drivers for your midi cable? What midi cable are you using? Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

I mean there could be so many reasons for it not working.

Have you checked that the cable is not loosely connected?

Does your cable have any indicator which glows when everything is alright? Some of the newer midi cables do have them.

If not on the cable, maybe on the software sequencer, that tells you if the connection is fine or not? Does the software tell you more about the problem?

Okay so you have checked that the MIDI-OUT of the Yamaha P85 is connected to MIDI_IN, coz that seems to be the problem usually.

Another thing to look for is the "transmit channel setup" or the "local Control" settings. Check your user manual for this one.

You need to ensure that the sequencer on your laptop is not sending "Local Off" to the Yamaha P85 keyboard. In this mode the piano will send notes to be played, but the keyboard itself is disconnected from the sound generating module, so no sound will be heard.
