Portable Musical Keyboard
Enhanced Digital Effects!

Portable Musical Keyboard! Add ambiance and depth to your keyboard sounds. Learn more about Reverb, DSP & other digital effects.

All the electronic keyboards nowadays come with a wide range of sound effects!

The use of Sound Effects, also known as Digital Effects, is what separates an average song from a professional one.

Why Use Digital Effects?

Take any song or background score and you will find the use of effects in them. These effects do not change the sound fundamentally but it enhances the sound so much that you find it sounding very richer.

There are almost hundreds of digital effects available on portable music keyboards. Of course nobody uses them all in one song and not all the effects are available on all the keyboards.

The more expensive ones do have a wide range though. We will look at some of the effects which are common in most portable musical keyboards.

Portable Musical Keyboard, Digital Effects

Common Digital Effects

Reverb, DSP, Chorus, and Echo are some of the digital sound effects which you can practically find on all the portable electronic Keyboards.

A Reverb effect makes you sound like you are playing in a concert hall, or live in a club.

A Chorus effect makes your playing sound as though multiple parts were being played together at the same time.

DSP effects are usually used for effects such as distortion and tremolo.

Besides the above effects, there are other sound effects which you can find in most of the high end portable keyboards.

Delay, Phasing (swirling effect), Flanging, Harmony, Arpeggio, Panning and Vocoders are some of these.

Pitch Bend and Modulation

Two well known effects found on practically all portable musical keyboard - Pitch Bend and Modulation control!

Pitch bend, also known as pitch shifter or pitch bender does what it says. It bends up or down whatever notes you play. By default, it shifts the notes by a semitone but it is possible to specify your own range.

Modulation makes the pitch wobble; it gives a kind of vibrato effect to the notes played.

Vocal Harmony

All the high end portable piano keyboards and electronic keyboards have the option to connect a microphone to let you sing along.

Such portable music keyboards also include some very good vocal effects, besides the usual range of sound effects. The Vocal Harmony effects when applied to your vocals can produce a much fuller and enriching sound.

Summary – Digital Sound Effects

A portable electronic keyboard features digital sound effects that can add ambiance and depth to your music in a variety of ways. Effects such as reverb makes you sound as if you are playing in a concert hall. Start using them in your keyboard playing to get a fuller and richer sound.
