Looking for Piano Keyboard Player
JPJ & Company is a jazz band specializing in playing jazz standards. I play lead guitar and put my first band together in Van Nuys, CA in the San Fernando in 1998. We started as a trio, (guitar, Keyboard, and drums) just for fun. Our first gig came when a neighbor who was also a talent promoter heard the band rehearsing one evening. It was in the Summer of 1998 and we played with the door wide open. When the knock on the door came I could see him through the screen. I thought it would be a complaint about the load music. Instead he asked if we would be interested in some gigs. He was true to his word and came through with the gigs. Over time I replaced the keyboard player and added a bass player. As absurd as it may sound, some time later on another Summer evening the band was once again rehearsing in my apartment and another knock came at the door. The gentleman at the door introduced himself. He had just moved in the building a short time ago because it was near the new establishment he was opening soon and he needed a band for the grand opening. I know if it hadn't happened to me I wouldn't believe either. Since that time I have added/replace a lot of musicians and played a lot of gigs. I am now based in Lancaster, CA since 2005 and I am once again putting together a band. Even though I have been here for almost seven years I have just gotten around it, and that's another story altogether. I have put together a pretty good band and we have had several rehearsals. The rehearsals are necessary because I have several vocalist performing in this next show I am putting together for the 31st of July, 2011. My problem? I can't keep a keyboard player. I'm looking for a keyboard player for our First Annual Jazz Mixer at BeX on the boulevard here in Lancaster. This person should live in Lancaster or very close as I have vocalist that I need to rehearse to make they are tight with the band. Even though time is short, it is not a problem. We are all seasoned musicians and need to nail the performance. This musician must read jazz charts, improvise, and have a real interest in playing jazz standards. Should be fun loving but not silly, will to work and play hard. |
