Looking for a Decent Music Keyboard

by Nishant
(Mumbai, India)

Hi, I am looking for a decent music keyboard with more than 61 keys. I was a professional keyboardist until about ten years ago before I quit entirely to get into film-making/producing.

However, my schedule now permits me to get back into it and jam with a bunch of like-minded people. I think I'm ready to go in for a buy now.

I'm looking at something that's great in a jam/performance setup (though not a MIDI controller since I won't be playing it through a laptop) and good for home studio recordings (electronica mostly...I've got Reason on my I-Mac).

I don't think my budget can exceed 1000 USD and I'd really like to go in for more than 61 keys if possible.

I live in Bombay, India and there's some pretty good Yamaha stores here, though the other brands are tough to come by.

Your recommendations would be invaluable.

Many thanks,
- Nishant

Even I would go in for a Yamaha psr550 keyboard. If I were to consider an expensive keyboard then I would rather go in for the psr-s910 than the psrs710. Yamaha psr-s910 sounds much excellent. The Yamaha psr550 is good for its price.

For jamming, I would suggest a Yamaha keyboard over a Casio keyboard as they are sturdier and definitely sound better, especially when you hear it through a keyboard amplifier.

Yamaha PSR s-710 and PSR s-910 are good but I think they will exceed your budget. Go for a psr550 instead.

Almost all the music keyboards are midi enabled, so you won?t have any problem connecting any keyboard to your computer to work with Propellerhead Reason.

Hi Nishant,

Yamaha has many digital keyboards that will satisfy your criteria, and in terms of sound quality they are one of the best.

Yamaha PSR s-710 and the PSR s-910 are very good arranger workstations that can fit your budget?but they are 61 keys keyboards.

If you really want more than 61 keys, then consider Yamaha?s DGX or YPG grand piano keyboards with 88 keys.

If you don?t mind owning a Casio, then consider the WK series or the Privia piano series. They will be much more cost-effective.

Regards,
Suresh
