Learn Indian / Desi (sa re ga ma) or Western Style (C D E F G A B)? Yamaha PSR-E323 or Casio CTK 810IN music keyboard?

by Tapas
(India)

I have read your web site. It is nice & lucid.

I am planning to learn digital music keyboard - Self help for time being since I want to avoid commuting time.

1) What style I should adopt to start first – Indian / Desi (sa re ga ma) or western style ( C D E F G A B ). Which style (Indian / Desi or Western) will be easier to start & why.

2) Which is a better choice between Yamaha PSR-E323 (10800/-) vs. Casio CTK 810IN (11500/-). Yamaha PSR I425 is a bit costly for me (16500/ min)?

Please help me
Tapas

Best music keyboard
by: Suresh

Hi Bapu,

There is plenty of information already on this site. You can checkout this page on Piano Lessons.

We will also be upgrading our http://www.piano-education.org site soon so you can check out for more lessons there.

How are you learning currently? I mean on what instrument? If you have just started probably a Casio or a Yamaha should do fine.

You will find some suggestions here at electronic music keyboard reviews and also at best portable keyboards under $200

Let me know if you have more queries.

Yamaha PSR i425 keyboard vs Casio CTK 810i Keyboard vs Yamaha PSR s550b Keyboard
by: sunil

Dear all,

I would suggest for beginners Casio CTK 810i keyboard. It is the best ever keyboard i have seen for those who want to catch Indian classical music on keyboard. Its cost is under 10000 Rs. I have used it.

Then comes Yamaha psr i425 keyboard for better sound quality and price is around 16000 rs. Approx.

If you want complete satisfaction of all Indian music and rhythm then select yamaha psr s550b. If u are a beginner then take casio. If you are an advanced user and are capable of investing around 38000 Rs. then go for Yamaha psr s550 keyboard. I'm using it and feeling great! Any question on yamaha psr s550b ask me or see my blog sunilwaghyamahapsr550b.blogspot.com

Playing with best Yamaha keyboard with real tabla voice
by: Najib Khan

If you want to play with the best keyboard which can produce real tabla voice then your choice should be Yamaha PSR S910 or PSR S710.

With Yamaha PSR S910 you can also record your own performance by attaching a mic and record mp3 or wav.

Yamaha PSR real tabla styles or rhythm for PSR S910 e.g dadra, kehrva, jhaptaal, teen taal, roopic, bhangra, remix and ghazal is available.

Learning Indian keyboard Piano
by: Najib Khan

First of all you should learn keyboard in desi style e.g sa re ga ma style.

As you should know that Indian music is melody based and western music is harmony based. Melody means playing songs with single note and harmony means playing with both hands.

After learning keyboard in desi style try to learn in western style because with western style you will be able to learn chords and chords fill your melody. Filled melodious music is good for listening.

Do not try to learn keyboard with only notations and only try to learn with sargam exercises if you want to create your own songs.

Yamaha psr i425 and Yamaha PSR S550b are Good
by: Vishal

I don't think that the Yamaha PSR i425 is much more expensive than psr-e423.

For playing Indian songs, with rhythms that include the Indian Tabla and other rhythms, there are a few other choices - the Yamaha psr i425 and the Yamaha psr s550b.

I am not sure of the exact price of Yamaha psr i425 - maybe around 16500 to 17500 rupees.
The better option is definitely the Yamaha psr s550b but then it costs a lot more (price around 35000 rupees or so) but the sounds are amazing.

It's a beginner workstation and it around a couple of Indian styles.

You can choose to download external Indian midi style files if you wish. You can do it through USB on to the Yamaha PSR S550b.

Learn Indian / Desi or Western Style? Yamaha PSR-E323 or Casio CTK 810IN music keyboard?
by: Suresh

Hi Tapas,

If you are learning on your own, I think most of the courses would teach you using the standard notation (C D E F G A B).

But adjusting to the Indian style is also not difficult later once you understand the concept of scales.

Yamaha vs. Casio is your personal choice. Go to any shop and check out which one you like more. For a beginner, Casio could be better because in general they give you more features at a lower price.
