Here is a nice video that shows how to connect your MIDI Keyboard to your computer using a M-Audio Uno connector.

It looks fairly easy to use, though I don’t use this particular software.

I use FL Studio to do all my sequencing work, and my MIDI Keyboard connection to my computer works perfectly fine.
