Internet Direct Connection (IDC) - Yamaha Keyboards & Piano

Internet Direct Connection (IDC) is Yamaha's way of getting your Yamaha electronic keyboards and digital pianos connected on the Internet.

After all, most advanced keyboard instruments are sort of mini-computers with built-in entertainment and recording system.

With the connectivity to the internet, you can always take advantage of the various software programs, songs, and styles that manufacturers make to ensure their customers do not get bored, and are always asking for more.

The Internet Direct Connection (IDC) is found on most Yamaha Keyboards & Piano so here is a FAQ to ensure you make the most out of your electronic keyboard instrument.

What is Internet Direct Connection (IDC)

It's a feature available only on Yamaha keyboards and pianos that allows you to connect your electric keyboard instrument directly to the internet, without needing a computer.

That is the important part; you don’t need a computer in between! Once connected to the internet using a LAN cable, Yamaha users can download various services from the Yamaha site on to their instrument.

How Does it Help You?

There is no doubt that this makes great business sense for Yamaha considering that this feature lets them build an online store of their offerings, which can be easily accessed by the users. This also makes Yamaha keyboards far more powerful as they are able to bypass the computer.

But then how does it help you? In the same way how accessing and download things on the internet helps! You now have access to tons of songs, voices, cool premium styles, music lessons and much more. Obviously not all of these features are free!

You can read more on the benefits of IDC here...

Which Yamaha Keyboards & Pianos offer IDC?

Yamaha Disklavier Piano
Yamaha Clavinova Piano
Yamaha MODUS Piano
Yamaha PSR & Tyros Keyboards

What Equipment is Needed for Internet Direct Connection?

You will need a router to share the Internet connection between your keyboard and your computer. You may even opt for a wireless adapter if you want to have a wireless connection.

Here are a couple of options for Wireless Connection...

Wireless USB Adapter
Planex Wireless Mini-USB Adapter

Wireless LAN/Gaming Adapter
Linksys Dual-Band Gaming and Video Adapter

I don't think you can surf the Internet! It's designed to access data / midi files only from the Yamaha web site.

Can I Use Yamaha's Internet Direct Connection for Surfing?
by: Jim

Can I use Yamaha's Internet Direct Connection for surfing the internet?

I have a Yamaha PSR 3000 keyboard and have used this feature to download digital sheet music but I was wondering if this can be used for browsing the internet?

I'm unable to figure that out so would appreciate it if someone can confirm that. Just interested in exploring the various possibilities!
