Buy Electronic Keyboard...
or a Piano?

Buy Electronic Keyboard...or a Piano? If you have been having a hard time deciding whether Keyboard or Piano, my two cents would be that you can definitely start learning on an electronic keyboard!

I mean, I don't want to say that an electronic keyboard can replace a digital piano and a digital piano can replace an acoustic piano; they have their own strengths.

A good piano is going to cost you thousands of dollars, so you need to be convinced and have solid reasons if you want to get yourself a piano; this includes you financial condition as well.

  • What if you are a college going student who has decided to learn the piano?

  • Are you sure you want to learn classical and are you sure you are going to be focused.

What if you would want to be a part of some band in college and would want to play pop or rock?

In that case if you are still deciding Piano or Keyboards, I think a keyboard would be handy since you can carry around your instrument.

  • What if you are an adult or a retired person?

  • You may just want to learn music for pleasure and don't want to make a career in music!

It may have been pending for a long time and now you have decided to pursue it.

What if you have to move cities?

Ask these questions before you decide. Would you need a Keyboard or piano? I guess a keyboard will suit better in these cases.

  • What if your kid gets bored easily?

  • As a parent, you will know your child more than others do.

If your kid gets bored easily or is already into a lot of activities, get him/her his first electronic keyboard so that your kid has an opportunity to learn and is not too heavy on your pocket as well.

Besides, if your kid gets fascinated by technology, an electronic keyboard will suit better since it has all the features to keep your child excited.

    You can always upgrade

I am not saying that you have to buy electronic keyboard as your first instrument.

I am just saying that there are enough reasons to justify it!

For those of you who have already decided to buy electronic keyboard, these are just some of the reasons to support your thought.

Besides, you can always upgrade. After doing your research, once you buy your first keyboard, it is not that the very next week you will realize that you should have bought a piano.

You can easily use your first electronic keyboard for a year or more. At the end of it, if you are happy with your progress and dedication, and are also convinced that you really need a Piano, by all means go ahead and buy a Piano.

    Adjusting to the Piano later

If it's the keys that you are talking about, it is not a big issue!

The keys on a Piano are indeed much stiffer as compared to a keyboard, but that does not take long to adjust. The thing that would need to be learnt is to use your left hand to its full potential.

You will also need to learn piano pieces that cover keys across more than 5 octaves.

The good thing now would be that you can already play songs on the piano, the ones that you had learnt on your first musical keyboard.

You would already know about scales, chords, riffs, various styles of music and a lot more.
