Best Digital Piano Keyboards for under $1000 US Dollars

I don't think Kawai has any pianos priced in that range, though they do have a few around the $1500 range under their MP series of pianos. You'll get the Kawai MP6 Stage Piano for around 1500 bucks.

Alternatively, you can go in for an earlier Kawai mp piano and buy it from the used market for cheap. The Kawai MP9000, which later on was revised to MP9500 are great pianos to have, if you are a Kawai piano fan. You should be able to get these for around 1000 US dollars. I personally find Kawai piano keys a bit on the heavier side, and even the piano keyboard as a whole.

Of all the options mentioned, only Yamaha CP33 and the Kurzweil SP2X are professional boards (no views on the Kurzweil SP4-7).

Casio PX-3 Privia, Yamaha DGX-640, and the Yamaha P155 are excellent digital pianos, but they don't have a good User interface and enough controls that are needed onstage.

These are more of practice pianos for pure piano playing. Not to say they are cheap, I am sure experienced pianists will like these too, but they are flexible enough to be used onstage. The Yamaha P-155 could be a borderline case.

For stage use, Kurzweil SP2X is good (one of the best in terms of sounds and keyboard touch) but then it is not very easy to set it up. Unless you have owned a Kurzweil before or are a techie type, you will not find the instructions straight to the point

I prefer the Yamaha CP33 for gigs.

Yamaha P-155 or the CP33 digital piano?
by: Ben

I think you cannot compare the Yamaha cp33 and the p-155. They are for two different purposes.

The Yamaha P155 is an excellent piano meant for advanced and very skilled pianist. You can use it at home for playing, teaching, practicing and even in the studio if needed.

Yamaha CP33 on the other hand is purely for gigging pianists. Professionals on the move will definitely prefer this piano.

Yamaha P-155 or the CP33 Piano?
by: Joe

Chris,

The Yamaha P-155 is being marketed as a home piano, but it has 4-level dynamic sampling vs. the 3-level on Yamaha cp33, so the p155 is good.

The built-in speaker has its own advantages, so I would not worry about it. Any digital piano with proper weighted keyboard makes a bit of thumping noise. Some people get disturbed by it but many don?t mind it at all.

So if somebody wants a stage piano purely for gigging purpose, the cp33 will suit fine. But the p155 seems to offer a better deal.

Which is better Yamaha P-155 or the CP33?
by: Chris

Which is better of the two - Yamaha P-155 or the CP33?

I was planning to buy the Yamaha CP33 but then somebody brought my notice to the newer Yamaha P-155 digital piano.

Though it looks good, it has built-in speakers which make me think that it is not as good as the Yamaha cp33.

Another thing that I observed was the cp33 gives a small thumping sound when I heard it on the headphones. Is this normal?

Best Digital Stage Piano Keyboards for under $1000 US Dollars

Thanks for bringing that to my notice. I didn't realize that the Yamaha ypg235 keyboard had 76 keys. I want to go in for 88 keys so I guess I will need to head to a piano outlet and search again.

How about the Williams overture piano and the M-Audio DPC-200 digital piano? Any views on these pianos?

Yamaha YPG 635 keyboard is excellent for under $1000 US Dollars
by: Chang

I personally do not prefer the Casio as they don't seem to be solidly built, especially for a weighted piano keyboard with 88 keys and 3 pedals. You do have better options in the $500 plus range but I am not sure what our budget is.

A great option if you have the budget is the Yamaha YPG 635 keyboard which comes with proper weighted keys, not the semi-weighted types.

Bear in mind that you need to buy the pedal unit separately on the ypg635, but it is worth it if you are going to learn to play the piano properly.

If you don't have the budget, then the ypg235 should be fine as well. Ideally, a keyboard with 88 keys would have been best since there is a lot of music you won't be able to play with a 76 key piano keyboard.

Is Yamaha YPG 235 a decent digital piano keyboard for a cheap price?
by: Kim

The Yamaha YPG 235 piano keyboard seems to be well within my budget. Any idea if it is a decent digital piano keyboard for somebody who intends to start learning to play the piano?

I looked at a few Casio Privia pianos but not sure about their quality. Could not find anything suitable from Roland!

Any suggestions or shall I go ahead with the Yamaha YPG 235 digital piano keyboard?
